The Royal Star Opera of New York
The world’s great stories, sung anew.
An opera house without walls. Each week we bring one of humankind’s myths, legends, and masterpieces of literature to the stage as an original, full-length opera — animated frame by frame, scored note by note, and released free to the world.
A New Kind of Opera House
Great stories, from every tradition.
The Royal Star Opera is building a living library of world story — from Homer’s Odyssey and the Ramayana to Dickens, Austen, and the folk legends of a hundred cultures. Each becomes a complete, full-length opera you can watch and hear, wherever you are, at no cost.
Every Culture
Stories from Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas, and the wider world — myth, epic, folktale, and the classic novel.
Full-Length Works
Not clips or trailers — complete operas, with overture, acts, arias, choruses, and a finale, typically around an hour of music and drama.
Free, Forever
Released as a free video series and podcast. Press play and the curtain rises — no ticket, no subscription, no paywall.
How Each Opera Is Made
An entire production, built from first principles.
Royal Star Opera is its own studio, orchestra, and stage. Every production is generated by an original computational pipeline — there is no stock footage and no image or video generators anywhere in the process.
The Libretto
We adapt the source story into a full libretto — acts, arias, recitative, and chorus — developed with the aid of AI language models and shaped by dramatic structure.
The Stage
A bespoke engine draws every frame as 2-D vector art: sets, costumes from fifteen world cultures, choreography, weather, and a cast of singers and mythic creatures.
The Score
An algorithmic orchestra composes and performs the music for each scene, while the voices are synthesized and tuned to sing the melody, line by line.
The Premiere
Picture, score, and voices are rendered into a single film — a complete opera — and released as the newest premiere in the collection.
